Virtual Library Services (Saima)
 
  • Saima posted on the CE Blog and sent out on social media for the following items: 
          - Some databases are going to the wrong database - refresh - clean cache
         - VLS staff updating - send email if you see bad links
          - Staff - on Events Calendar - choose 3 Featured Events and a flyer will be printed
         - To add a new program, contact: Jennifer Schwartz (ADULT), Kallie Benes (YOUTH),
           Jessica Stanley (COMPUTER)
         - Robinson location page has been updated - social media sent out
         - Learning Link pages are updated
 
Notifying IT Reconsideration of Website (Pedro)
  • How to block website: send form to LMS; Fred will decide then tell Digital Strategies to block
Techlink (Roland)
  • LibCal - different meeting room reservation software
  • "My Techlink" marketing: presentation is on the Intranet
  • Roland may have a traveling road show to show off Techlink
  • Services will include desktop publishing, makerspaces, and testing centers
  • Scenic Woods will be the pilot location. Timetable is next spring; met with architect last week; will have 2 full time and 2 part time; one of the full time staff members will be the manager of the Techlink portion of the facility
  • Testing Center guidelines are very exacting; plan is to have Techlink hours close to library hours; customers are required to take a familiarization course before being allowed to use equipment and software (required to print out Certificate of Completion from Niche Academy)
  • Library cards will be required
  • Software to create graphic novels will be available
  • Osmo coding game
  • Wacom tablet for painting
Thought Plan (Mary)
  • Mary will do a roadshow to let everyone to let everyone know it exists
  • Idea is for staff member to have an innovation/idea and present it to the SIT committee, then send it to ELT for approval
  • Questions from the handout have been approved by Dr. Lawson; rubric still pending approval
New Technology at Young (Mary)
  • 3D Printer (3)
  • Multimedia space for photo editing
  • Bamboo spark for imaging and drafting and drawing
  • iPad Pro for Kids to learn coding
  • VCR/DVD combo (save VHS as DVD)
  • Osmos coding (coding, words, numbers, tanagram puzzles, and games)
  • Microsoft Surface Table
  • iPad Crayola Kiosk
  • Waycom Tablets with Corel Painter 2016 (drawing and painting, sketching or painting from scratch or a photograph)
  • Photo Scanner
Renovation Timelines (Mary)
  • Handout was distributed
  • Vinson will be open on Mondays from 11-6, effective 9/12/16
Augmented Reality Books (Pedro)
  • Imagination
  • With some books - point camera phone at book and book comes to life
iTeam Reservation Needing Computer Available (Edgar)
  • Print out temporary logins in the morning and place at reservation station
  • Do we want to have no computers needing to be available for customers to extend time as long as there is no queue?
  • Takes one hour for new cards to be valid
  • Do we want to switch entirely to guest passes? With guest passes there are no problems.
  • Download to Excel file - print out and then cut?
  • Can we limit how many goes on each receipt to conserve paper?
Open Discussion
  • DVD limit - 15
  • Telescope donated; currently at HMRC; group wants it to be checked out; is it adults or kids; where should it be housed; Paty will get the ball rolling with LMS; need to figure out replacement costs; want to create programs based around the telescope
  • Judith - new database authentication product; staff needs to report if it is having issues; email has been sent out; database and catalog links need to change on catalog computers (will now have a tab after results to see articles on same subject); if webpage looks strange, please let Judith know.
