Virtual Library Services (Saima)
Event Module Training
  • Will be offered every 3rd month
  • Sign up in the Training Portal
  • An event can have up to 3 description tags
  • Keep an event as "recurring" only for 2-3 months in case any changes occur
  • For Special Collections, like Clayton's Lecture Series, specific descriptions can be entered in the blank space (ex: "Hispanic Research Day")
  • If events are taking too long to get approved, notify Saima
Season's Readings
  • Page has been published
  • Includes lists and descriptions of activities
Me Scan BinTech
  • For RFID locations
  • Checkouts will not be done at CSD or self-checkout machines
  • JUN and YOU
  • This is a stand alone app; will not be included on HPL app
MyLink Online Library Card Registration Form
  • New customer form
  • Update customer info form for existing customers
  • Soft launch in December or January
  • Hotspot will be available for outreaches
  • Rick has received confirmation from City Legal regarding the E-signature check box
Newsletters (Patrick)
  • To access Newsletters, go to "Find It," then go to the Readers' Link page
  • Newsletters can include a combination of events and services
  • Customers have to subscribe in order to receive newsletters
  • Saima will try to add it to HPL app
Learning Link Material
  • Cards will be sent to elementary schools in the near future
Self-Check Updates (Patrick)
  • Alief 96% usage
  • Jungman 97% usage
  • Stella Link 98% usage
  • Customers are getting used to it at Jungman; staff are walking customers through procedure
  • World Language Picture Books are problematic and goes to "Exceptions"; breaks the matrix every time it gets scanned; the problem may be coming from Sirsi, not the 3M matrix
iTeams Walk Up Reservation (Dominick)
  • Walk Up is working better than the kiosk
  • The library card is not getting recognized in the kiosk
  • Card numbers that do get recognized sometimes do not get added to the waiting list
  • Blocks users and sends message that "library is closed for holiday"
  • Create a detailed log and send to IT Help Desk and Robin Cabrera
  • JUN restarts the kiosk every morning
  • Day passes are replacing computer cards
  • Walk up screen is only at half size; issue fixed by restarting the computer
Reciprocal Services with HCPL and Bellaire City Library
  • West University location will be closing for renovation and Holds Pick Up location will be Bellaire City Library
  • Maybe next spring, reciprocal holds pick up services will be available for STE at Bellaire and vice versa
  • CEN can also be a pick up location for HCPL; add Medical Center location as an HPL location
EBSCO Search Box
  • Search box addition will be implemented on December 12th; training will be provided on December 16th (30-minute webinar)
  • Staff will receive email with detailed instructions and screenshots (URL will be included so staff can try it out)
  • Customers will be alerted that this is a "new" feature after training has been provided
Classics
  • CEN keeps classics separated
  • FRX/MEY also have theirs separated
  • JUN - old are separated, new are interfiled
  • STE keeps classics separated
  • Some classics are cataloged as "paperbacks" but come in hardback; confuses staff and customers
  • Can location code be shadowed in the catalog? Judith will check
SIT Team Moving Forward
  • Will be every other month
  • Next meeting is in February
