Virtual Services Update (Lauren)
Meescan Update
- Some checkouts at Jungman; placed in the kids area; staff is encouraging customers to try it; instructions are posted by the pad
- Some items are not getting desensitized; the app notifies Sirsi when the item gets checked out and the pad desensitizes the item
- Might be easier if there are less apps to download; scanner does not work on older barcodes (hard to read); app drains the battery
- The Meescan at Young is not very visible (next to the printer/copier); possible to move?
Online Library Card Registration
- Browser issues with Internet Explorer, but Chrome works
- Spanish translations are being worked on but needs to go through Communications.
- An IT request can be made to get Chrome added to the catalog computer
- Still has to check for duplicate accounts, etc., like on paper forms (should be first step of verification)
- Also checks out of state addresses
- System may verify with HALAN and duplicate accounts may pop up; solution is to create account manually
- Customer accounts can be done without paper forms but make sure to include notes in the account
Wifi Hot Spot Update
- Launched at Jungman (2 checkouts), Young (10 checkouts), and Acres-Homes
- Will be launching at Johnson, Moody, and Mancuso
- Passwords will always be the same
- Might slow down if others pick up connection
- Will someone be able to hack if they connect or find out password?
- Dominick took it out of state and it worked well
New Virtual Library Services Staff Welcome, David!
Netflix on Roku (Patrick)
- Would go well with Hot Spot checkout
- May be cheaper to subscribe to Netflix than purchase DVDs
- Rick likes the idea
- Patrick will do more research
Museum Passes (Felicia)
- Some library systems around the country already offer these to their customers, and this would just be another way we can link our customers
- Card holder must have less than $10 in fines in order to reserve passes
- Great opportunity for us to create partnerships with museums
- Reach out to Quipu; Lauren will get CIL presenter's name
Online Claims Returned Form (Fred)
- Test version has been completed (this will be an add-on to Sirsi, not a replacement)
- Will allow staff to add up to 5 additional locations to search
- Once the list is found, the item will be pulled from the list automatically
- Will be piloted at Jungman and possibly Central
- Fred wants to test it first before it goes public
In House Use (Fred)
- Need to determine what we are going to count and not count
- How do we train customers? Invest in carts for end of ranges?
- These numbers will count as circulation numbers
- Special Collection numbers need to be included
- Tested at KAS/LAK - added 30% to circulation; scanners have been ordered
- Will help LMS in training; determines how to spend money more effectively
- Numbers can go to Collection HQ
- Challenge is capturing real time use
- Need to train customers to not shelve items back
- Workflow must be consistent at all locations
- Shows a real depiction of materials actually being used
- JUN will try Bluetooth scanner
- Fred will consult Melissa, Sue, Paty, Sylvia, and Sara; Fred will create an outline for review to Senior Managers
Open Discussion
- Bean Stack replaces Evanced for SRP
- More user friendly than Evanced
- Registration will prompt awards for SRP
- Can register up to 5 kids
- Staff Side username will be location's first 3 initials; password is library
- No stickers this year, only virtual badging
- No "various" anymore; each title must be logged in
- No paper log this year
- Encourage customers to log books/hours themselves
- Staff will be trained
- No certificates; will be replaced with sunglasses
